Job description

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people? Do you have a calm, supportive approach to working with children who face social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges? 

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our team at a forward-thinking school in Rochdale, starting in April 2025.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who need additional support with their social, emotional, and mental health development. Your role will include:

  • Supporting students in the classroom to help them manage emotions and behaviour
  • Providing 1:1 or small group interventions to encourage positive social interaction and emotional regulation
  • Creating a safe and nurturing learning environment that fosters trust and confidence
  • Working closely with the teaching team to implement individual learning plans and behaviour strategies
  • Helping students develop coping strategies and life skills to succeed academically and socially

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience in working with children—ideally with SEMH or other special educational needs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A patient and empathetic approach to supporting children with complex emotional needs
  • The ability to remain calm and adaptable in challenging situations
  • A proactive and team-focused attitude

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
