About the Role:
Teaching Personnel is excited to announce an opportunity for a dedicated SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to join a well-respected mainstream secondary school in Leeds, West Yorkshire. This is a full-time role starting in January 2024, providing support to students with additional SEMH needs.
As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in creating a positive and supportive learning environment for students who face challenges in managing their emotions, behaviour, and social interactions. You will work closely with the classroom teacher and other support staff to deliver tailored interventions and strategies that help students engage and succeed academically.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one and small group support for students with SEMH needs
- Assist with implementing Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs) and Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
- Foster positive relationships with students to build their confidence and self-esteem
- Help manage classroom behaviour and maintain a safe, inclusive environment
- Support students with social and emotional development through targeted interventions
- Work alongside teachers and SENCOs to monitor student progress and provide feedback
- Be a positive role model for students, promoting inclusivity and respect within the school community
Person Specification:
- Experience working with young people with SEMH or special educational needs is desirable
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students
- Patient, empathetic, and resilient with a passion for supporting students’ development
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a busy school environment
- A relevant qualification in education, psychology, or a related field is an advantage, but not essential
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
