Science Teacher

I am working with a school in Southampton who are looking to recruit a Science Teacher for January.

• Responsibilities:

  • Plan, deliver, and assess science lessons in accordance with the curriculum.
  • Provide differentiated support for students with diverse needs, including emotional, behavioral, and learning challenges.
  • Foster a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Collaborate with the SEN team, pastoral staff, and other teachers to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) and tailored teaching strategies.
  • Manage challenging behavior using restorative and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Promote emotional well-being and self-regulation through the teaching of science.
  • Regularly assess and monitor progress, providing feedback to students and parents.

• Skills & Qualities:

  • Strong understanding of science, ideally with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status).
  • Experience working in SEMH, SEN, or alternative education settings is a plus.
  • Ability to build rapport and trust with students with complex needs.
  • Patience, flexibility, and creativity in teaching methods.
  • Excellent behavior management skills, using positive and proactive strategies.
  • Strong communication skills to liaise with colleagues, parents, and external agencies.
  • An empathetic, compassionate, and student-centered approach.

• Desirable:

  • Experience with therapeutic or restorative teaching practices.
  • Training in special educational needs, trauma-informed teaching, or SEMH.
  • An interest in outdoor education or hands-on learning, particularly in science.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
