Job Advertisement: Permanent SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: Specialist SEN provision, West Cornwall
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Schedule: Monday - Friday, (term-time only)

The Role:
We are seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to work full-time with children who have a variety of special educational needs (SEN). You will support the classroom teacher in delivering a high-quality, inclusive education, ensuring each child reaches their full potential. This could be general and on a 1:1 basis, depending on the needs of the students in the classroom.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work one-on-one or in small groups with SEN children, providing tailored support.
- Assist in implementing individual learning plans (ILPs) and strategies.
- Foster a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment.
- Encourage students' social, emotional, and personal development.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to adapt teaching methods to students’ needs.
- Support students with varying needs, which may include autism, ADHD, physical disabilities, speech and language difficulties, or emotional and behavioral challenges.
About You:
We are looking for someone who is:
- Experienced in working with children with SEN (preferred but not essential—training will be provided).
- Patient, empathetic, and committed to making a positive impact.
- Skilled in building strong, trusting relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Adaptable and able to remain calm under pressure.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Previous experience in a similar role or a keen interest in SEN education.
- A relevant Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not required).
- An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undertake one).
- A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
