They are looking to hire a pastoral support worker to provide further support on both a 1:1 and small group basis. The successful individual would be working with the pupils to manage their behaviour through providing them with coping mechanisms and activities to promote a calm and respectful environment for them to feel safe and nurtured whilst in school. All pupils in this school have an EHC or IEP plan to support their SEMH needs and these need to be followed to ensure each of their individual needs are being met throughout their school day.

The role

As pastoral support worker, you may be required to be in close contact with pupils’ family members and other outside agencies to provide pupils with a full support system around them. You will need to differentiate your planning, teaching, and activities to meet the needs of each pupil you are supporting as they will all have different needs and coping mechanisms. Within this role, the support may not be restricted to solely supporting the pupil in school, you may be expected to support family members during this time ie. providing them with strategies that could possibly be implemented outside of school to ensure that the routine and strategies are the consistent. Your role is to be a committed positive figure for your pupils, where they feel relaxed, safe, and respected in your presence, most of the pupils may not have a stable support system around them outside of school, so providing that stable support whilst they are in your care is paramount for their development.
