Job Description:
We are looking for a compassionate and proactive Pastoral 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will provide targeted pastoral support to a designated student, fostering their personal, social, and academic development. This role involves working closely with students who may present a range of complex needs, including social, emotional, and mental health difficulties (SEMH). You will work alongside teachers, other support staff, and external agencies to create a supportive learning environment and promote positive engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 support to a student in both educational and pastoral aspects, ensuring they feel safe, valued, and understood.
- Support the student in managing their emotions, building resilience, and developing positive behaviors.
- Work collaboratively with teachers to adapt resources and differentiate tasks according to the student’s individual needs.
- Encourage the student to engage with the curriculum and achieve their personal goals, providing feedback and encouragement.
- Act as a trusted adult for the student, offering a listening ear and implementing strategies to support their mental and emotional well-being.
- Monitor and document the student’s progress, reporting to relevant staff members and external agencies as needed.
- Uphold safeguarding and child protection policies at all times.
Person Specification:
- Experience in a pastoral, TA, or support role within an Alternative Provision, SEMH, SEN, or similar educational setting.
- Strong understanding of SEMH needs and the ability to build trust and rapport with vulnerable students.
- Patience, empathy, and resilience when dealing with challenging behaviors.
- Ability to work as part of a team, demonstrating excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Relevant qualifications in education, child development, counseling, or related fields are desirable.
