Outdoor Education Tutor (Westbury) – SEMH/ SEN Alternative Provision
A highly reputable and innovative Special Educational Needs (SEN) school group is seeking a passionate and experienced Outdoor Education Tutor to join their dedicated team in their alternative provision located in Westbury. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to make a real difference in the lives of young people who benefit from non-traditional, outdoor-focused learning environments.
As part of this dynamic provision, the Outdoor Education Tutor will play a key role in delivering engaging, hands-on learning experiences to students with a variety of complex needs, including social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges, Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), and other learning difficulties. The tutor will create bespoke outdoor learning programs that inspire, challenge, and build resilience in students, while supporting their personal and academic development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and deliver creative, practical, and engaging outdoor education lessons tailored to meet individual student needs.
- Develop strong, supportive relationships with students, encouraging their confidence, social skills, and emotional well-being.
- Collaborate with teaching staff, support workers, and external professionals to integrate outdoor learning into wider education plans.
- Facilitate activities such as bushcraft, team-building exercises, adventure sports, and environmental education.
- Monitor and assess student progress, ensuring lessons meet the goals set in their individualized learning plans (ILPs).
- Promote positive behavior management strategies, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Contribute to a positive, child-centered school culture that fosters growth and achievement.
Requirements:
- Relevant qualification in Outdoor Education, Forest School Leadership, or similar field (Level 3 or higher).
- Proven experience working with children and young people with SEN, particularly in outdoor or alternative learning environments.
- Strong understanding of SEN, especially around Autism, SEMH, and behavioral challenges.
- Excellent communication, behavior management, and motivational skills.
- First Aid certification (or willingness to complete).
- A passion for the outdoors, with practical skills in outdoor activities, environmental education, or adventure sports.
- Patience, resilience, and the ability to engage students who may have faced barriers in traditional educational settings.
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, with flexibility and a solution-focused mindset.
- A valid UK driving license is desirable.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
