Job Title: Level 3 Teaching Assistant (SEND Specialist)
Location: South Shields
Contract Type: Full Time

About Us:
Teaching Personnel are looking for a Level 3 TA to work in a Primary School in South Shields in January, the school are dedicated to fostering an inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive. The school has a strong commitment to supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), and we are seeking a passionate, experienced Level 3 Teaching Assistant to join their team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 and group support for students with a wide range of SEND, including but not limited to ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, sensory impairments, and SEMH needs.
  • Collaborate with the class teacher and SENCO to implement personalized learning plans.
  • Employ a variety of communication strategies, such as Makaton, PECS, or other assistive tools, to meet students' individual needs.
  • Assist in the preparation of differentiated materials and resources to enhance accessibility.
  • Monitor and record students’ progress, contributing to reviews and assessments.
  • Foster a nurturing and inclusive environment that promotes confidence, independence, and well-being.
  • Support transitions between activities, ensuring a calm and structured approach to minimize anxiety for SEND students.

Essential Requirements:

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience working with children with SEND in an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of EHCPs and strategies for implementing tailored interventions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with staff, parents, and external professionals.
  • Resilience, patience, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with assistive technology or alternative communication methods.
  • Knowledge of relevant safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Training in de-escalation and behavior management strategies.
