Learning Support Mentor – School in Parkstone, Poole

Are you passionate about supporting students with additional educational needs? Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Mentor to work in a secondary school in Parkstone, Poole. This rewarding role is perfect for someone who cares about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and thrive both academically and emotionally. 

This role would be to start ASAP and has potentional to go permanaent at the school.

Main Purpose:

  • Provide academic and pastoral support to students identified with additional educational needs.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and support staff to ensure the continuity and progress of individual students.
  • Offer general support to students in lessons and the Student Support Room.
  • Act as an Emotionally Available Adult for students when required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work 1-2-1 or with small groups of students, supporting them in and outside the classroom as directed by the SENDCo.
  • Establish positive relationships with students, maintaining high expectations for their progress and behaviour.
  • Develop an understanding of students' specific needs, working closely with the SEND and Pastoral Teams, Teachers, and external agencies.
  • Encourage positive reinforcement, praise, and rewards to motivate students.
  • Facilitate inclusion in group activities and support interaction among peers.

Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • Passion for, or experience of, working with children with special educational needs in a secondary school setting.
  • An understanding of how children learn and behave, with a commitment to supporting their development.
  • Serve as a positive role model in behaviour, control, and resilience.
  • A genuine interest in student welfare, particularly for those facing learning challenges.
  • Respect professional confidentiality and adhere to safeguarding protocols.
  • Be proactive in attending relevant training and meetings to stay up to date with developments in special educational needs.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
