Job Title: Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team, providing vital support to our students.
Job Description
The successful candidate will work closely with students who have diverse and complex needs, including MLD, ADHD, Autism, and those with EHCPs. Your role will be to support them both academically and emotionally, helping them access the curriculum and develop essential life skills. You will work alongside teachers, the SENCO, and external professionals to implement individual strategies and ensure the best outcomes for each student.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored one-on-one or small group support to students with MLD, ADHD, Autism, and those on EHCPs, ensuring their individual needs are met.
- Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behavior management plans, adapting strategies as needed for each student.
- Work closely with the SENCO and other professionals to develop and review EHCPs, ensuring all support is appropriately delivered.
- Foster positive and supportive relationships with students, encouraging their social, emotional, and educational development.
- Support students with daily classroom activities, helping them to stay engaged, focused, and on task.
- Assist with managing behavior, using positive reinforcement techniques, and promoting independence.
- Keep accurate records of students' progress, communicating regularly with teachers, parents, and the SENCO regarding their achievements and areas of concern.
- Assist with personal care or physical needs when necessary.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience working in an SEN environment, supporting children with MLD, ADHD, Autism, and EHCPs.
- A relevant qualification in childcare, education, or SEN support (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification).
- A strong understanding of the challenges and barriers faced by children with SEN and a passion for helping them achieve their full potential.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- Patience, empathy, and resilience when working with students who may exhibit challenging behaviors.
- Experience with positive behavior management strategies and techniques.
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and a commitment to the welfare of students.
Desirable Skills:
- Training in specific interventions for Autism, ADHD, or MLD.
- Experience working with EHCPs and contributing to the assessment and review process.
- Familiarity with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) methods, sensory integration techniques, or other specialist approaches.
