Learning Support Assistant (LSA) – Secondary School in Havant, Hampshire

A highly regarded secondary school in Havant, Hampshire, is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join its team. The school, which serves students aged 11-16, prides itself on fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where students are encouraged to achieve their full academic and personal potential.

Role Overview: The Learning Support Assistant will play a pivotal role in providing support to students with a range of learning needs. Working closely with classroom teachers, the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), and other staff members, the successful candidate will help ensure that all students can access the curriculum and engage fully in school life. This position will involve providing 1:1 or small group support and assisting with classroom management and lesson preparation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting students with special educational needs (SEN) and learning difficulties in the classroom
  • Assisting students in engaging with lessons and promoting inclusion and participation
  • Delivering targeted support to individual students or small groups based on specific learning requirements
  • Aiding classroom teachers with lesson planning and general classroom management
  • Tracking and reporting on student progress to teachers and SENCO
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and fostering emotional wellbeing within the school environment
  • Contributing to the school’s extracurricular activities and supporting wider school initiatives

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people, preferably in an educational or support role
  • A solid understanding of SEN and strategies for supporting students with learning difficulties
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
  • Patience, empathy, and a proactive attitude towards meeting students’ individual needs
  • The ability to work collaboratively with teachers and follow guidance effectively
