Learning Support Assistant (SEN) – Bournemouth Secondary School

A mainstream secondary school in Bournemouth is seeking a highly experienced Learning Support Assistant to join their dedicated team. About the Role: The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and other support staff to provide tailored assistance to students with a variety of SEN, including but not limited to autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, dyslexia, and social, emotional, and mental health needs. Responsibilities will include supporting students in their academic progress, helping to develop individualized learning plans, and fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with SEN.
• Assist in the development and implementation of individualized learning plans.
• Work collaboratively with teachers to adapt and differentiate classroom materials and activities.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
• Monitor and report on student progress to teachers and SEN coordinators.
• Support students with personal care needs, where necessary.
• Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in SEN support.

Requirements:

• Proven experience as a Learning Support Assistant, specifically working with students with a range of SEN.
• A relevant qualification in education or SEN support (e.g., CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, SEN Teaching Assistant qualification, etc.).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to supporting students with diverse needs.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• A commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.

Desirable:

• Previous experience in a secondary school setting.
• Additional training or qualifications in specific areas of SEN (e.g. autism awareness, dyslexia support, etc.).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
