We are seeking Supply Education, Health, and Care Assistants (EHCAs) to join our bank of supply staff at a Special Educational Needs (SEN) School in Plymouth. This is an excellent opportunity for flexible work, with both short-term and long-term placements available to suit your availability.

About the Role:

As a Supply EHCA, you will support students with special needs on an as-needed basis, covering both planned and unplanned absences. Working under the guidance of teaching staff, Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs), and medical staff, you’ll play a crucial role in providing educational support, care, and some medical assistance to students. Your work may be conducted in the classroom, off-site, or in specialized school areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Educational Support: Help pupils with special needs access learning by providing personalized support within the classroom environment. Assist teachers with classroom management, record-keeping, and implementing Individual Education and Behaviour Plans.
  • Health and Medical Assistance: Undertake training to support a range of medical needs as directed by nursing staff, including tasks such as gastrostomy support, epilepsy treatment, and airway management.
  • Personal Care and Wellbeing: Provide intimate care as required, including assistance with toileting and mobility. Encourage positive behavior, support emotional wellbeing, and ensure students’ safety during activities.
  • Flexible Assignments: As supply staff, be ready to adapt quickly to different classrooms and pupil needs, ensuring continuity of care and learning even on short-notice assignments.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Experience with SEN: Prior experience working with children with SEN is highly valued.
  • Medical Competencies: Willingness to train in basic medical support skills specific to pupils’ needs, provided under the supervision of nursing staff.
  • Adaptability and Reliability: Able to respond quickly to short-term bookings and manage varied assignments with ease.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written skills to communicate with students, staff, and families.
  • Physical Stamina: This role involves physical activities like lifting, mobility support, and participation in water-based exercises.
