Salary: MPS/UPS (depending on experience) + TLR for Literacy Lead

A thriving and forward-thinking secondary school in Burnley, Lancashire, with a recent Ofsted rating of GOOD, is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Teacher of English to join their dedicated team as a Literacy Lead. This exciting opportunity is available for a January 2025 start and offers the chance to make a real impact on students’ learning outcomes.

As Teacher of English (Literacy Lead), the successful candidate will play a key role in shaping and delivering high-quality English lessons while leading on literacy initiatives across the school. They will inspire and engage students in developing their literacy skills, working closely with colleagues to implement literacy strategies and improve standards across the curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver outstanding English lessons to Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students
  • Lead the development and implementation of a whole-school literacy strategy
  • Monitor and track student progress in literacy, ensuring all learners make strong progress
  • Support and guide colleagues in embedding literacy skills across all subjects
  • Collaborate with the senior leadership team to drive forward literacy standards
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that challenges and supports all students
  • Actively contribute to the wider school community through involvement in extracurricular activities

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a relevant degree in English or a related field
  • Proven track record of successful teaching in English, ideally with experience in Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4
  • Experience in leading literacy initiatives or a willingness to develop in this area
  • A passion for raising literacy standards and a creative approach to teaching
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire both students and staff
  • Commitment to professional development and continuous improvement
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute to the school’s ethos and values

Desirable:

  • Experience in a leadership or middle management role
  • Familiarity with current educational research and best practices in literacy development
