Teaching Personnel are recruiting an enthusiastic English teacher to join a thriving secondary school in the Portsmouth area full time from October. 

This school, is dedicated to providing a supportive, inclusive, and stimulating environment for both students and staff.  They have a strong sense of community and high academic standards.

As a full-time English teacher, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality English lessons to students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. You will play a pivotal role in helping students achieve their academic potential and develop a love for English literature and language.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning and Delivering Lessons: Design and deliver engaging, well-structured lessons that inspire students and foster a love for English. Ensure lessons are differentiated to meet the varying needs and abilities of all students.

  • Curriculum Development: Contribute to the development and review of the English curriculum, ensuring it meets the needs of students and aligns with national standards. Use a variety of teaching strategies to deliver content effectively.

  • Assessment and Feedback: Regularly assess student progress through both formative and summative assessments. Provide timely, constructive feedback to students, helping them to improve and achieve their academic goals.

  • Supporting Student Progress: Identify students who require additional support and provide appropriate intervention strategies. Work closely with colleagues and the school's SEN department to ensure all students receive the support they need to succeed.

  • Classroom Management: Establish a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel safe, respected, and motivated to learn. Implement effective behaviour management strategies in line with school policies.

  • Extracurricular Activities: Encourage and participate in extracurricular activities, such as English clubs, literature events, and school productions, to enhance the overall learning experience for students.

  • Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues. Report on student progress and address any concerns or issues promptly and professionally.

  • Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practice and stay up-to-date with the latest educational research and methodologies.

 

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualifications: Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and have a degree in English or a related field.

  • Experience: Proven experience teaching English at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 levels. Experience preparing students for GCSE exams is highly desirable.

  • Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate students. Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage time effectively.

  • Qualities: A passion for English literature and language, and a genuine commitment to improving student outcomes. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, creative, and dedicated to fostering a positive learning environment.

  • Knowledge: A solid understanding of the English National Curriculum and current educational best practices. Familiarity with differentiation techniques and assessment for learning strategies.

  • Commitment: A commitment to the school’s ethos and values, and a willingness to contribute to the wider school community. A desire to engage in continuous professional development and self-improvement.
