Role Overview:
Teaching Personnel is seeking a dynamic and passionate English Teacher to join a well-established secondary school in Bournemouth, Dorset. This full-time position, starting in January, is to cover a maternity leave and offers the chance to work in a school known for its supportive and diverse environment. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, ensuring students are engaged and motivated to achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Delivery: Teach English Language and Literature to students in Key Stages 3 and 4, covering a wide range of texts, genres, and writing styles. Ensure that lessons meet the national curriculum standards and engage students in their learning.
- Lesson Planning: Develop and deliver well-structured, creative lesson plans that cater to the diverse needs and abilities of all students. Incorporate varied teaching methods to inspire a love for reading, writing, and critical thinking.
- Assessment and Feedback: Regularly assess student progress through classwork, homework, and formal assessments. Provide detailed and constructive feedback to help students improve and achieve their academic goals.
- Classroom Management: Create and maintain a positive and disciplined learning environment. Use effective behaviour management strategies to ensure that all students can learn in a focused and respectful atmosphere.
- Exam Preparation: Prepare students for GCSE English Language and Literature exams, helping them to develop key skills such as analytical writing, comprehension, and creative expression. Provide targeted support for exam techniques and revision strategies.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the English department and wider school staff to share resources and strategies for effective teaching. Participate in department meetings and contribute to the development of the English curriculum.
- Student Engagement: Foster a love for literature and writing through the exploration of diverse authors and texts. Encourage students to express their ideas confidently and develop their analytical skills through discussions and debates.
- Communication with Parents and Carers: Maintain regular communication with parents and carers, providing updates on student progress and any additional support needed to help them succeed.
Ideal Candidate:
- Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a degree in English or a related subject.
- Experience: Proven experience teaching English at the secondary school level, with a strong knowledge of the English curriculum and GCSE requirements.
- Skills: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate students of varying abilities. Strong classroom management skills and a commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment.
- Passion for English: A deep passion for English Language and Literature, with the ability to foster a love for reading and writing in students. A commitment to helping students develop strong literacy skills that will benefit them beyond their school years.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
