Role Overview:

Teaching Personnel is looking to recruit a skilled and enthusiastic Design Technology Teacher for a well-regarded secondary school in Reddish, Stockport. This is a full-time position starting in January to cover a maternity leave, providing an opportunity to join a dedicated team in a dynamic, inclusive environment. The role involves delivering engaging Design Technology lessons that inspire creativity and innovation in students across a range of abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver creative, practical lessons in Design Technology to Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students. You will cover topics such as product design, resistant materials, and graphics, ensuring lessons meet the requirements of the national curriculum.
  • Practical Workshops: Facilitate hands-on learning experiences through practical projects, allowing students to develop technical skills in designing, crafting, and using materials effectively. You will also ensure that health and safety regulations are strictly followed during practical sessions.
  • Assessment & Feedback: Assess student progress through both formative and summative methods, providing regular feedback to help them improve their skills. You will track student performance, set achievable targets, and use data to inform future lesson planning.
  • Resource Management: Oversee the use of equipment, tools, and materials in the workshop, ensuring that all resources are used efficiently and safely. You will also be responsible for keeping the workshop organized and fully stocked with necessary materials.
  • Student Engagement: Inspire students to explore their creativity and think critically about design and manufacturing processes. Encourage independent thinking, problem-solving, and innovation through projects that challenge students to apply their knowledge.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a positive, productive classroom environment where students feel safe to experiment and learn. Implement strong behaviour management strategies to ensure a focused, respectful learning space.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the wider Design and Technology department to share best practices, collaborate on curriculum development, and contribute to extra-curricular activities such as clubs or competitions.
  • Support for Exam Preparation: Help students prepare for coursework and examinations, providing guidance and support to ensure they achieve their best possible results. This includes managing coursework projects and assisting with GCSE exam preparation.
  • Communication with Stakeholders: Build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. Keep parents updated on student progress and collaborate with staff to support the holistic development of each student.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree or relevant qualification in Design Technology or a related field.
  • Experience: Previous experience teaching Design Technology at Key Stages 3 and 4 is essential, with a strong understanding of practical skills and design theory.
  • Skills: Excellent classroom management, a passion for design, and the ability to motivate students through engaging and interactive lessons.
  • Innovative Approach: A creative thinker who can inspire students to develop their design and problem-solving abilities, and who can adapt teaching to meet the needs of all learners.
