Role Overview:

Teaching Personnel is seeking an experienced and passionate Design Technology Teacher to join a high-performing secondary school in Macclesfield. This full-time position is to cover a maternity leave starting in January, offering the chance to teach in an inspiring environment with supportive staff and engaged students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Subject Delivery: Teach engaging and practical Design Technology lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, potentially including specialisms such as Product Design, Resistant Materials, Graphics, or Textiles.
  • Curriculum Planning: Develop creative and innovative lesson plans in line with the school’s curriculum, encouraging problem-solving and technical skill development.
  • Practical Skills Focus: Oversee hands-on projects in the workshop or classroom, ensuring students gain practical experience while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Assessment and Feedback: Regularly assess student progress, provide constructive feedback, and maintain detailed records to support academic development.
  • Classroom Management: Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel encouraged to explore and succeed.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Design Technology department to develop schemes of work, share resources, and participate in extracurricular projects.
  • Whole School Contribution: Engage with the wider school community, attending staff meetings, parent consultations, and school events.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Holds QTS or equivalent teaching qualifications with a specialism in Design Technology.
  • Experience: Proven ability to teach Design Technology at secondary school level, with expertise in one or more specialisms such as Product Design, Engineering, Graphics, or Food Technology.
  • Creativity and Passion: A commitment to inspiring creativity and technical innovation in students through dynamic teaching practices.
  • Strong Workshop Skills: Familiarity with workshop tools, machinery, and software, ensuring high standards of safety and engagement during practical sessions.
  • Adaptable Educator: Skilled in tailoring teaching methods to meet diverse student needs and learning styles.
  • Effective Communicator: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for building positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Team Player: Willingness to collaborate within a dedicated and forward-thinking department.
