Community Outreach Workers for Pupil Referral Unit (Plymouth)

Teaching Personnel is seeking experienced Community Outreach Workers for multiple roles within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) based in Plymouth. This is a rewarding opportunity to support students with Social and Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) needs on a 1:1 basis within the community. These students, who have been referred to the PRU, require additional support to continue their educational journey, often after being removed from mainstream schools. The ultimate goal is to help them achieve GCSEs or equivalent qualifications, or to reintegrate into mainstream education.

Role Details:

  • Working Hours:
    • Monday to Thursday: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
    • Friday: 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Location: Plymouth and surrounding community areas

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to help students achieve both personal and educational goals.
  • Guide students in exploring their post-education options.
  • Promote social and emotional awareness, as well as independence.
  • Manage challenging behavior proactively, rather than reactively.
  • Report and document any safeguarding concerns or behavioral challenges.
  • Help students build confidence and self-esteem.

Requirements:

  • Essential Experience:
    • Previous work in a PRU, young offenders' environment, or similar setting, supporting young people with challenging behaviors.
    • Experience in a classroom setting, with the ability to build and maintain strong, professional relationships that foster student progression.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Resilient, positive, and effective in responding to difficult behavior.

DBS Requirements: To work with Teaching Personnel, you must have a Child Workforce DBS registered with the Update Service. If you need to apply for a new check, we offer full assistance at a standard cost of £38, plus an annual subscription fee of £13 for the Update Service.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
