Classroom Assistant

Teaching personnel are looking for a Classroom Assistant to join the team working with a range of children and young people with additional needs. The successful candidate will be working with learners aged 11-16 with a range of additional needs including Autism, Down’s Syndrome, Behavioural Needs, Speech and Language Needs and Sensory Impairments etc. This role will be situated within the Newport area.

The school you will be joining is a popular and thriving secondary school, and this role will be working within the schools base for pupils with additional learning needs (ALN).

The successful applicant does not need to have a Teaching Assistant qualification however experience supporting people with additional needs is desirable. It is essential the Classroom Assistant is confident and proactive in class and able to work well in a team environment.

Contract Information:

Type: Full Time (Monday to Friday)

Pay: £12.90 - £14.80 per hour (dependant on experience/qualifications)

Hours: 8.30am – 3.30pm

Location: Newport, Wales

Start Date: September 2024

Length: 1 year - until August 2025

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supporting learners during tasks and activities set up by the teacher.
  • Lead and organise small groups of learners through tasks
  • Supervise the learners throughout the school day including moving around the school and on break and lunch duties.
  • Provide nurturing support for learners

To work in schools in Wales the Classroom Assistant must have: (We can assist you on obtaining the below)

  • Enhanced Child DBS on the update service
  • Up to date EWC registration (Education Workforce Council)
  • Level 2 safeguarding qualification.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
