Challenging Behaviour - 1-2-1 Teaching Assistant

Primary School

Location: Merthyr Tydfill

Full-time: 8:30am - 3:30pm

Pay rate: £12.82 per hour

Start date: 2nd September 2024

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to work on a challening behaviour 1-2-1 basis with a student exhibiting challenging behaviour in a mainstream reception class at a Primary School in Merthyr.

This Primary School values the abilities and achievements of all its pupils and is committed to providing the best possible learning environment, no matter their needs. We adhere to the Additional Learning Needs Code of Practice, ensuring all pupils with additional learning and educational needs receive appropriate support and that parents are informed when ALN provision is made for their child.

This full-time role, based in Merthyr Tydfill, operates Monday to Friday (9:00-15:30) with an ideal start date of 2nd September 2024.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide personalised academic support tailored to the student's individual learning style and pace.
  • Implement strategies to effectively manage challenging behaviour, promoting positive interactions and emotional regulation.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment where the student feels valued, respected, and safe.
  • Monitor and track the student's progress, adjusting teaching strategies and interventions as needed to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, providing updates on the student's academic and social development, and offering strategies for support at home.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to promote consistency and cohesion in the student's educational experience.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have experience building rapport with pupils with ALN and challenging behaviour on a 1-2-1 basis.
  • Possess a positive, energetic, and patient mindset.
  • Demonstrate proven experience working with students with challenging behaviour, preferably in a 1-2-1 setting.
  • Have a strong understanding of child development and learning theories.
  • Exhibit excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Show patience, empathy, and resilience when working with diverse student populations.
  • Be able to adapt teaching strategies to meet the individual needs of each student.
