Behaviour Support Assistant
Location: Newport, NP11
Rate: £12.90 per hour (£83.85 per day)
Type: Full-Time – Consistency is essential
We are partnering with a primary school in Newport to recruit a Behaviour Support Assistant to help students with lessons and daily activities. Prior experience managing behavioural challenges is essential, as we need someone confident and adaptable from day one. Students range from ages 3 to 11, although you will primarily work with the same group of students during lessons and breaks.
Trial days may be required to ensure suitability for both you and the school. Building a strong relationship is vital, particularly in one-to-one support roles. The position involves both classroom assistance and outdoor activities. In the classroom, your focus will be on helping students stay on task and complete their work. Outside, you’ll support students during lunch and engage them in activities, utilising outdoor facilities to keep them active and calm during potentially overwhelming periods.
Key Responsibilities:
- Encourage and ensure student engagement during all sessions.
- Develop and implement strategies to manage challenging behaviour effectively.
- Participate in relevant training and courses.
Requirements and Qualifications:

- Understanding of children’s developmental needs, including those requiring additional support.
- Passion for education and helping others.
- Enhanced DBS check and EWC (Education Workforce Council) registration.
- Two professional references.
- Level 2 Safeguarding certification.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
