Job Title: Autism SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Harborne, Birmingham

Salary: Competitive, based on experience

Contract: Full-Time / Part-Time

Start Date: November 2024

The Role:

We are looking for a dedicated Autism SEN Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team. In this role, you will work closely with teachers and other professionals to provide one-to-one and small group support to children on the autism spectrum. Your focus will be on helping students engage with their learning, develop social and communication skills, and build confidence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students with autism, both in the classroom and during extracurricular activities
  • Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and adapting lesson plans to meet the needs of SEN pupils
  • Work closely with the class teacher to manage the classroom environment and support positive behavior
  • Promote inclusion by encouraging social interaction and independence
  • Monitor and report on students' progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents
  • Support students with personal care needs when necessary
  • Help create a safe and supportive learning atmosphere for all students

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children, preferably those with autism or SEN
  • A compassionate and patient attitude, with a genuine passion for helping children achieve their full potential
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Knowledge of strategies to support children with autism (e.g., visual aids, sensory integration, etc.)
  • A relevant qualification in SEN support or child care (desirable but not essential)
  • A willingness to undertake additional training, such as safeguarding or autism-specific training
