Exciting Opportunity for a Full-Time SEN Teaching Assistant Specialising in Autism Support in Plymouth!
Are you passionate about supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and helping them reach their full potential? We are looking for a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team in a primary school in Plymouth.
The Role:
- Position: SEN Teaching Assistant - Autism Support (Full Time)
- Hours: 6.5 hours per day, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm
- Start Date: ASAP
- Duration: Potential to lead to a permanent role for the right candidate
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide invaluable support to children with autism, helping them engage, communicate, and succeed in a structured learning environment. Your main responsibilities will include:
- Providing Individualised Support: Working one-on-one with students with autism, adapting activities to meet their unique needs, strengths, and interests.
- Creating a Positive Learning Environment: Helping to establish a calm, structured classroom setting that fosters routine, confidence, and independence.
- Supporting Social and Communication Skills: Assisting children in developing communication skills, understanding social cues, and expressing themselves in a supportive environment.
- Promoting Emotional Well-being: Understanding and addressing each child’s emotional needs, implementing strategies to reduce anxiety and encourage positive engagement.
- Collaborating with the SEN Team: Working closely with teachers, therapists, and parents to ensure consistent support, monitor progress, and adjust plans as needed.
- Providing Personal Care and Assistance: Supporting children with daily routines, personal care, and sensory needs to ensure their comfort and well-being.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience in an SEN setting, particularly with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Level 2 or 3 qualification in education or care is advantageous but not required
- Strong understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder and familiarity with SEN strategies
- DBS on the update service or willingness to complete a new one

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
