Position: Animal Care Tutor
Location: Independent Special School, Trowbridge
Start Date: September 2024
Salary: Competitive, Dependent on experience
Contract: Permanent
A highly reputable SEMH School Group is seeking a dedicated and passionate Animal Care Tutor to join their permanent staff list at their esteemed independent special school in Trowbridge. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs through the therapeutic benefits of animal care and education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging and comprehensive Animal Care lessons tailored to the individual needs of students with SEMH challenges.
- Develop and implement a curriculum that promotes both academic and practical skills in animal care.
- Foster a supportive and nurturing learning environment, encouraging student engagement and personal growth.
- Assess and monitor student progress, providing regular feedback and adapting teaching strategies as necessary.
- Collaborate with colleagues and support staff to ensure a holistic approach to each student's education and well-being.
- Maintain a safe and hygienic environment for both students and animals.
- Organize and oversee practical sessions, field trips, and interactive activities involving animal care.
Requirements:
- A relevant qualification in Animal Care or a related field.
- Experience working in an educational setting, preferably with students with SEMH needs.
- Strong knowledge of animal care practices and the ability to convey this knowledge effectively to students.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient and empathetic approach.
- Ability to develop and adapt lesson plans to meet diverse learning needs.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Flexibility, creativity, and enthusiasm for teaching and mentoring students with SEMH challenges.
Desirable:
- Teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS) or willingness to work towards one.
- Experience in a special school or alternative provision setting.
- Understanding of therapeutic approaches involving animals.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
