Job description

Darwen Primary School – 1:1 SEN TA role- January Start!

A ‘Good’ Darwen Primary School require a specialist teaching assistant to work 1:1 with a child in a Year 4 class.

The role will commence from the first week in back after the Christmas holidays and continue for the full academic year on a temporary supply basis.

The school are keen to appoint an experienced support assistant who has worked previously in school alongside children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs.

The child has been granted funding through the Local Authority and with this the school are keen to gain support to work with the child on a part time basis. The funding will stretch to working with the child for 4.5 hours, five days a week for the entirety of the academic year. This is an excellent opportunity for a teaching assistant looking for a new challenge in the New Year; it will also give you peace of mind that you have work for the full school calender.

The child:

The child has worked in the school since joining in the Reception class and has received none funding support since then. The child has progressed with behaviour and academic development since working in school and will be working in the Year 4 class, working behind the National Expectation for Maths and English. The child will be supported from 0845 until 1300 each day. The Head teacher is keen to make sure the child will continue to develop further and so the successful candidate must be able to hit the ground running and build a strong bond with the child. The needs of the child are not specific and can be quite sporadic; from emotional outbursts to break downs in class. The school have catered well through good differentiation and additional grouped focus support. Now there is funding for the child, the Head teacher is planning to see considerable progress!

The school:

The school is located in the heart of DARWEN, receiving a recent GOOD Ofsted grading where the support of children with Special Educational Needs was OUTSTANDING. The report also commented on the support from the SLT and Head teacher and how they work closely with staff members to get the most out of their skillset. The School is located within a predominately White British area and the children tend to arrive from lower middle class backgrounds. With this, the parents of the children tend to be supportive and expect high standards from the school. The school is a one-form entry and the progress made from Reception class to Y6 is GOOD. As well, the school is accessible through good transport links and major roads.

How to apply and what the entry level requirements are:

The school are looking for a teaching assistant who is Level 2 or above qualified and someone who has prior experience working on a 1:1 basis alongside children with SEMH. You must be available to take up work from the first week in January and commit to the role for the rest of the academic year. You must have a DBS on the update service online. It is also at the discretion of the school as to whether they accept candidates with a criminal record.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
