Experienced SEMH TA
Job description
An extraordinary educational provision in Clevedon, dedicated to creating a safe, trusting environment for 12 girls who have experienced significant trauma, is seeking a compassionate and resilient Teaching Assistant/ HLTA. Working here offers the chance to make a real impact through tailored 1:1 or 2:2 sessions with students who have ASC (Autism Spectrum Condition) and are capable of a range of GCSEs. Lessons are structured around the AQA portfolio model, with each staff member closely supporting 1-2 students.
This unique school is based in a converted house in a quiet cul-de-sac, creating a cozy, homelike atmosphere. With a focus on personal growth as much as academic progress, learning often takes place beyond the classroom—in nearby coffee shops or on local beaches—allowing for a nurturing and flexible approach.
Position Details:
- Start Date: Immediate, beginning in November through the end of the academic year, with potential for a contract extension
- Hours: Monday-Thursday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, and Friday 8:30 am to 12:30 pm (term time only)
- Daily Structure: Includes 2 hours of planning, no lunch or playground duties, and no marking required
- Pay: Enhanced TA rate of £100+/day, paid weekly
The students, ages 11-18, each follow an individualized Education and Care Plan (ECHP) that aligns with their academic and personal needs. The school’s approach is grounded in building relationships and promoting connection, avoiding punitive or behaviourist strategies. Instead, the focus is on holistic, restorative practices, allowing students to feel supported and encouraged as they develop confidence and resilience.
Ideal Candidate Requirements:
- Transportation: Must be able to drive, as the school is located in the BS21 (Clevedon) area
- Behavioural Support: Experience managing and de-escalating challenging behaviours with a calm, effective approach
- Positive and Engaging Presence: Eager to create an inviting, safe, and supportive learning environment
- Relevant Experience: Previous experience working with young people who have displayed challenging behaviour is beneficial
If you are ready to make a meaningful difference in these students' lives, please reach out to Charlie at the contact details below. We look forward to welcoming you to this team!
