Job Advertisement: English Specialist Teaching Assistant

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic English Specialist Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Chorlton. This is a full-time role starting in January and continuing until the end of the academic year, with the potential for a permanent position based on performance.

About the Role:
As an English Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will support students in developing their skills and confidence in English, ensuring they can fully access the curriculum and achieve their academic potential. You will work closely with teaching staff to provide targeted support, particularly for students who may need additional help with literacy, comprehension, or exam preparation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students in small groups or on a one-to-one basis to improve their understanding of English language and literature.
  • Assist teachers in planning and delivering engaging lessons that address the diverse needs of all students.
  • Provide targeted interventions for students who may be struggling with reading, writing, or other aspects of the English curriculum.
  • Help students prepare for assessments and exams, focusing on key skills such as essay writing, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Foster a love for reading and learning by promoting engagement with a variety of texts.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers to inform tailored support strategies.
  • Support classroom management and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Assist with the preparation of resources and materials to enhance learning experiences.

What We’re Looking For:
The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a degree in English or a related subject, or have a strong background in the subject.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate students.
  • Be patient, approachable, and proactive in addressing students’ individual needs.
  • Have a genuine passion for education and supporting students’ academic development.
  • Be organized, reliable, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Be available full-time from January through to the end of the academic year.

Previous experience working with young people in an educational setting is advantageous but not essential, as training and support will be provided.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
